Despite the West’s effort to suffocate Russia’s war machine through sanctions by banning export of crucial components, Western-made parts such as microchips are still found in Russian weapons two years into the full-scale invasion. Nearly three-quarters of the roughly 2,500 foreign components found in Russian weaponry and analyzed by Ukrainian authorities were made by U.S. producers, a database by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NAZK) reveals.

In the two years since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has forcibly deported thousands of Ukrainian children. While the total number of these deported minors is unknown, Kyiv has reported nearly 20,000 (however, Maria Lvova-Belova publicly admitted that at least 7000,000 Ukrainian children have been kidnapped by Russian authorities from the Ukrainian occupied territories). After the children are separated from their families and taken to Russia, the Russian authorities begin working to make them forget about their home country, telling them that their parents aren’t coming to get them and that Russia is their home. To learn how this system works, Meduza special correspondent Lilia Yapparova studied thousands of documents and spoke with employees from Russia’s Education Ministry, the main agency responsible for these “reeducation” measures.

Mstyslav Chernov’s “20 Days in Mariupol,” a harrowing first-person account of the early days of Russia’s brutal inhuman full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, won the best documentary Oscar on 11th March in Los Angeles. A joint production of The Associated Press and PBS’ “Frontline,” statuettes were awarded to Chernov, producer and editor Michelle Mizner and producer Raney Aronson-Rath. The Oscar — and nomination — was a first for both Chernov, an AP video journalist, and the 178-year-old news organization.
