Χριστούγεννα Στο Τρίτο Ράιχ – Christmas In Third Reich…! (Video + Photo)
A collage of video clips and still images, primarily from the war years, combined with traditional German Christmas music. It begins with an excerpt from a speech by Adolf Hitler announcing the national Winter Hilfswerk (public Winter Help Service) with my English narration, followed by a news reel concerning collection of needed clothes and goods, food, blankets etc for the soldiers on the Eastern Front (with English subs).
There are many images included here of both civilians, leadership and soldiers celebrating Christmas. There is also a clip from a U-Boot crew in the Caribbean celebrating Christmas. And finally, at the at the very end, I have included the amazing, historical “Weihnachtsringsendung” (Christmas Ring Broadcast) which took place via military two-way radio and the domestic public airwaves. With this broadcast, the entire German nation at home, and their soldiers, sailors and airmen on all fronts of the war, were joined together for a few minutes via radio on Christmas Eve 1942, to sing “Stille Nacht” (Silent Night). It was a miraculous, and a very uplifting display of national solidarity and Christian brotherly love: the very things National Socialism stood for, and which only the forced war under the combined might of the corrupt Allied Nations could destroy.

Το κατωτέρω κείμενο, είναι το τελευταίο άρθρο του Joseph Goebbels στο Das Reich. Δύο εβδομάδες αργότερα, ήταν νεκρός. Παρά την απέλπιδα κατάσταση του πολέμου, προσπαθεί να πείσει και να εμψυχώσει τους Γερμανούς, να συνεχίσουν να πολεμούν μέχρις εσχάτων. Καθώς το σύστημα διανομής είχε καταρρεύσει την ώρα που γράφοταν αυτή η δημοσίευση (η Ρωσική στρατιά ήδη επετίθετο στο Βερολίνο), λίγοι μόνο άνθρωποι διάβασαν το τελικό δοκίμιό του.

Ο πόλεμος έχει φθάσει σε ένα στάδιο, όπου μόνο οι πλήρεις προσπάθειες του έθνους και κάθε ατόμου μπορούν να μας σώσουν. Η υπεράσπιση της ελευθερίας μας δεν εξαρτάται πλέον από τον στρατό, που πολεμά στο μέτωπο. Κάθε πολίτης, κάθε άνδρας και γυναίκα, αγόρι και κορίτσι, πρέπει να πολεμήσει με απαράμιλλο φανατισμό. Ο εχθρός περιμένει, ότι μόλις τα τανκ του διασπάσουν τις γραμμές μας, θα συναντήσουν μηδενική αντίσταση. Πιστεύει πως θα είμαστε τόσο σαστισμένοι από την υλική υπεροχή του, που θα αφήσουμε τα πράγματα να πάρουν τον δρόμο τους, χωρίς να μας νοιάζει τι τροπή θα έχουν. Πρέπει να διαψεύσουμε τις ελπίδες του εχθρού. Κανένα χωριό και καμμία πόλη δεν πρέπει να ενδώσει στον εχθρό. Ο εχθρός είναι δυνατός, αλλά όχι αρκετά δυνατός για να κρατήσει όλη την επικράτεια του Ράιχ χωρίς την δική μας βοήθεια. Αν μας πείσει να παραδοθούμε, θα περάσει εύκολα μαζί μας. Ο εχθρός έχει λεηλατήσει τις πόλεις και τις επαρχίες μας με τον χειρότερο και φρικτότερο βομβιστικό τρόμο. Όσο εμείς είμαστε αποφασισμένοι να αντισταθούμε με κάθε κόστος, δεν μπορούμε να νικηθούμε, και για μας το να μην νικηθούμε σημαίνει να είμαστε νικητές.

It is sometimes said, even by critics usually endeavouring to be objective in their judgments, that National Socialism has abolished law in Germany and has substituted arbitrariness in its place. Those who hold that view must be completely ignorant of the principles maintained by National Socialism and of the conditions actually existing in Germany. The new German State is based upon the axiom that law is one of the main pillars supporting the solidarity of the nation and the political structure representing it. More than that, a conception of law deeply rooted in the nation’s life and recognised as binding by every citizen is the foundation of the country’s entire civilisation.
