Το 2018 έκλεισε με μάλλον παράδοξο τρόπο. Πριν από λίγες μέρες ο Πούτιν δήλωσε περίλυπος ότι ένας πυρηνικός πόλεμος δεν μπορεί να αποκλειστεί και ζήτησε συγνώμη για την καταστροφή που μας περιμένει. Λίγο αργότερα ο Τραμπ έριξε τη δική του βόμβα αλλά όχι αυτή που θα περίμενε κανείς μετά τις κινδυνολογίες του Πούτιν. Ο Τραμπ ανακοίνωσε ότι οι Αμερικανοί φεύγουν από τη Συρία.  Οπότε ξεσηκώθηκε εντός και εκτός ΗΠΑ όλη η αγέλη λύκων, από τη Χίλαρι ως τον Μακρόν, που ελπίζει όχι να πέσει χιόνι  αλλά να βρέξει βόμβες. Το αποκορύφωμα ήταν ότι παραιτήθηκε ο Υ/Άμυνας των ΗΠΑ, ο Τζιμ Μάτις, επιλεγόμενος και «τρελός σκύλος». Χάθηκε ο άνθρωπος της λογικής,  κλαυθμηρίζουν τα «έγκυρα» ΜΜΕ  Ουάσιγκτον Ποστ, Τάϊμς κλπ αν και είναι κοινό μυστικό ότι ο Μάτις ήθελε βομβαρδισμούς και πάλι βομβαρδισμούς. Ο Μάτις ήθελε παραμονή των ΗΠΑ στη Μ. Ανατολή και, επομένως, συντήρηση της διαμάχης με τη Ρωσία. Αντίθετα ο Τραμπ θεωρεί, προφανώς, επωφελέστερη μια σιωπηρή συμφωνία που δεν θα αμφισβητεί τα αναπόφευκτα κέρδη της Ρωσίας στη Μ. Ανατολή αλλά οι ΗΠΑ, σχετικώς απερίσπαστες, θα επιχειρήσουν να περιορίσουν την Κίνα. Νίκη των απόψεων Κίσινγκερ.
