Police used water cannons and teargassed nationalist counter-demonstrators targeting the first Equality Gay Parade in the Polish city of Lublin on Saturday. Counter-demo participants had reportedly used firecrackers, thrown stones and apples at the parade participants when police deployed water cannons and teargas to ward them off. It is estimated close to 5,000 radical nationalists and hooligans countering the LGBT march. While the gay pride parade has been held in Warsaw for 17 years, it is the first time the parade came to the eastern Polish city.
