Dozens of former Israeli soldiers have joined the fight with Russian-backed separatists in their occupation of eastern Ukraine, the Jewish “foreign minister” of the “Donetsk People’s Republic” Alexander Kofman told a Russian-Jewish media outlet.
Boasting his Zionist credentials, Kofman affirmed that he used to work for a Jewish Agency youth program. “A senior leader of the Moscow- backed insurgency in eastern Ukraine revealed that he is Jewish and a former counselor in a Jewish Agency youth program,” noted the Jerusalem Post in a story about Kofman.
The Jewish Agency is described as “the largest Jewish nonprofit organization in the world” whose mission is to “inspire Jews throughout the world to connect with their people, heritage, and land, and empower them to build a thriving Jewish future and a strong Israel.”
Invoking the Holocaust, Kofman said dozens of ex-IDF members joined the rebel cause to fight “Nazism” in Ukraine.
Appropriating the same rationale, a member of Israel’s Communist Party, Ina Levitan, joined the Russian militants with hopes to hunt down and kill “Nazis” and “fascists” whom she, as an Israeli Jew, “viscerally hate[s].”
Levitan told the Jerusalem Post that she “is able to fight for her principles… being an Israeli and commemorating Holocaust Remembrance Day taught her the importance of standing up to Nazis,” which she claims to be doing by trying to annex Ukrainian land for the criminal Putin regime.
With the “Holocaust” rationale at the fore, it seems the Israeli mercenary has wasted no time refurbishing discredited atrocity stories from the World War II era. Levitan claims that she witnessed the “Nazi” Ukrainian troops “cut limbs and tattooed” a rebel’s body with swastikas. “We are fighting against these atrocities that occur repeatedly and harm civilians.”
That questionable story sounds like something she borrowed from the grotesque Tarantino film “Inglorious Basterds,” wherein an American-Jewish battalion embarks on a “Nazi hunting” mission in Europe during WWII, variously capturing, killing, and torturing German troops and officials, followed by a ritualistic carving of a swastika into some of their captives’ foreheads.
“The Western media is distorting the nature of the rebellion in Ukraine, just as it distorts Israel’s fight against Palestinian terrorism,” Levitan said.
Israel has officially remained neutral throughout the whole Ukraine-Russia conflict, and did not show up for a US-backed UN resolution condemning Russia’s annexation of Crimea.
The significant commonalities between Russia and Israel – their shared commitment to upholding the official historiography of WWII and the disputed “Holocaust” narrative chief among them – has brought the two rogue nations into a strategic embrace that has intensified in recent years.
