For first time, the number of supporters of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army in Ukraine exceeds the number of its opponents.

Wearing the uniform of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, known by its Ukrainian acronym UPA, nationalists march with their red-black (L) and Ukrainian national yellow-and-blue (R) flags in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, on October 10, 2010, to mark the anniversary of World War II rebels who fought the Soviets. The UPA -- which was founded in 1942 and at one point numbered around 40,000 fighters -- initially welcomed the German invasion of the Soviet Union as a liberation from Communist rule. It later turned against Berlin, but when the Soviet Red Army swept back into Ukraine the UPA fought against it too, continuing its attacks until well after the end of World War II. According to a survey conducted by a Ukrainian sociological group “Rating” in October 2015, 41% of respondents support the idea of acknowledging the OUN-UPA struggle for national independence, while 38% do not support. Another 21% are undecided on this issue. The Ukrainian Insurgent Army was a Ukrainian nationalist paramilitary and later partisan army that engaged in a series of guerrilla conflicts during World War II against the Soviet Union, the Third Reich, Czechoslovakia, and both Underground and Communist Poland.During 2014-2015, the number of supporters of UPA acknowledgment increased from 27% to 41%, while the number of opponents dropped from 52% to 38%, thus reversing a long-standing historical trend. The younger the respondents, the higher the level of education and income, the more they tend to support the acknowledgment of OUN-UPA. In addition, this idea finds the strongest support in the West (76%), an average support in the Center (42%) and the weakest in the South (27%) and in the East (23%).Source
